According to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, WhatsApp is much more private and secure than iMessage. According to Mark, who voiced this claim in a post he published on Facebook, this is because WhatsApp uses end-to-end encryption on both Android and iOS, including group chats. Whereas, iMessage reverts to the more insecure SMS system when sending messages to Android devices.

It also adds that you can set new chats to disappear at the touch of a button, thus preventing your messages from being opened on your phone, WhatsApp has end-to-end encrypted backups. It claims that WhatsApp is more secure because none of these features are available to iMessage users.

Zuckerberg’s post on Facebook also includes a WhatsApp ad. The company announced in August that it would run a global advertising campaign, starting in the UK, highlighting the privacy-related aspects of its products to the public. It’s too early to tell how the campaign will work out for Meta, but with Meta still known as Facebook, it looks like the firm’s job is tough in terms of security and privacy.
