US telecommunications company Verizon has decided to close the BlueJeans application, which competes with Zoom in the video conferencing market. The company purchased the service in question for $ 400 million during the peak of the Covid-19 outbreak.
BlueJeans was launched in 2011 as a business application that provides video conferencing and communication solutions. Verizon and Google collaborated on integrating the app into Glass Enterprise Edition 2 smart glasses in 2022.
In March of this year, a free version of BlueJeans was made available to attract more potential users and compete more successfully with Google Meet and Zoom. However, this move did not help the application to become popular.
He fell out of favor when the wind of the pandemic died down
BlueJeans’ basic plan and free trial option will stop working after August 31, 2023. Paid users will be able to continue using the application for a while. However, these users will eventually have to switch to other video conferencing services as well.
In April 2020, when Verizon acquired BlueJeans, video conferencing services were in high demand due to the pandemic. But now that the majority of employees are back in offices, such virtual collaboration apps are not as popular as they used to be.
