Ryzen Threadripper 7000, AMD’s HEDT-class high-performance processor family, is finally coming to the labs. The Threadripper family, aimed at content creators or those engaged in professional workloads, has been quiet for a while. But recently, the Ryzen Threadripper 7995WX, 7985WX and 7945WX models have surfaced.

Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series “on the way”

It’s been a year since AMD introduced the desktop Ryzen 7000 platform, and it’s clear that the company hasn’t placed a significant emphasis on the HEDT series. Leaked information from various sources has so far resulted in conflicting details and dates. Recent developments indicate that AMD has now assigned names and product codes (OPNs) to at least three SKUs. This information was discovered in a shipping notice, as stated.

The leaks seen in Threadripper 7995WX, 7985WX, and 7945WX confirm the maximum 350W thermal design power (TDP) for the processors, and all three appear to share this feature. Moreover, it appears that these CPUs will use the new AMD SP6 socket, a socket also intended to be used in the AMD EPYC 8004 Siena series. However, the leak doesn’t fully clarify whether these CPUs are part of the Threadripper PRO series, or whether they’re aimed at gaming and consumer systems in the Threadripper HEDT series as opposed to workstation-oriented platforms.

The upcoming Threadripper series, on the other hand, is called “Storm Peak”. In terms of specs, we don’t know the exact core counts, but the SP6 chips are expected to have a maximum of 64 cores and 128 threads, which will be the same as the current Threadripper 5000 parts. But these expectations are also contradictory. In a report we made in November, we talked about the engineering sample Threadripper 7000 processors with 96 cores and 192 threads. In fact, the product codes of the 7995WX and 7985WX seen in the X post above match the ones in this news. So the 96 core claims are not unfounded.

Finally, we expect the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 “Storm Peak” series to be announced in late 2023. This announcement will be accompanied by EPYC 8004 Siena processors, which have not been released until now. Speaking of Siena, it is stated that this series consists of six models scaling from 8 cores to 64 cores, uses the SP6 platform and has TDP values between 90-200W.
