The music video for the song of the same name from Teoman’s latest album “Ben, Zargana, Deus Ex Machina” was released on 1 September. If you haven’t watched the clip yet, we recommend that you watch it soon and carefully examine each frame.
In the clip of the song, which contains Teoman’s depressive words, you will see just as many depressive images. These images were created by Merve Kurtuluş in Midjourney. He told us the process of creating this clip.
First of all, let’s watch the clip in detail and pay attention to the harmony of the lyrics of the song and the visuals:
The team that created the clip:
- Director: Korhan Kurt
- Retouch: Sait Erol
- Motion: Mahir Baran Yigit
- Agency: +spark
- AiArtist: Merve Kurtuluş
Teoman’s comment about this clip: I believe that art is an always evolving journey. This video represents the combination of new technologies meeting art and a creative expression that allows narratives beyond music. Midjourney’s AI capabilities helped me bring my vision to life, and I’m extremely excited about the resulting work.
Some notable frames from the clip are as follows:
Let’s move on to the questions we posed to Merve Kurtuluş, who created the artificial intelligence visuals in the clip:
Did you have difficulty preparing the visuals for the clip compared to your previous Midjourney works? How did you feel while preparing the images? Is there a detail you can’t forget?
Many of my previous Midjourney works were static pieces and I presented them in a collection of up to 9 pieces. But when it comes to a clip, I produced many, many more images than 9 (I can put a few more here :)).
I have never produced such a massive, multi-piece collection. It definitely improved my production capacity and my Midjourney muscles. In addition, you have so many images at your disposal that you realize that transforming them into a work that you look at from a broad perspective and has a single language is one of the main issues. The process allowed me to thoroughly decipher the anatomy of the prompt, which greatly improved my capacity to produce a continuous work.
As I produced the images, I found that the equation of time and work involved would change. While we were preparing the clip, we could have shot a clip with a more conventional visuality, but we could not have differentiated that much in terms of art direction. The Time-Money-Quality triangle seems to be evolving in different directions.
It’s not a detail I can’t forget, but we can say that I had an awareness. I was writing advertisements until 6 months ago, but now I am creating visuals by writing prompts. Regardless of what happens, I can continue to produce as soon as I can adapt. As soon as I realized this, I saw more clearly in which direction both the world and my world could evolve.
Did Teoman know about artificial intelligence visuals before, or did he learn about it for the first time through this clip? What was the reaction to the result? Did he also give advice?
Teoman is a very visionary artist. He follows the world. Our director is also someone who can quickly adapt to technology. They put their heads together and say, “Let’s do it!” So they formed our team, and when they acted quickly, a good job was done.
The general theme of the clip is in line with the general theme of the album; in fact, it is the moments that make Teoman who he is. Of course, he had his own guidance, and he liked the results very much. We received very good feedback, I am very happy on behalf of the whole team. The audience’s comments were also very positive.
Do you think we will see clips using artificial intelligence visuals more often? Apart from music videos, in what other areas do you think we’ll see it?
We will see it much more often and in every field. Everything you see will be productive AI output. I put the brands at the top. Since they do not have art concerns, they will realize more quickly that there is a great opportunity in the time/money axis. But interestingly, I think brands do not adapt quickly and cannot foresee the near future.
We experienced something similar when social media first appeared. “What the hell is a tweet!” “We want a viral video,” marketing managers said a few years later. He hugged social media agencies by saying. I thought they would adapt faster this time, but it is far below the level I expected.
If we leave the front of the brands, we will see quite a lot in the entertainment world. Only studios with screens are opening. The whole set will be an AI output. The world of production will use it a lot and it will change radically. When the physical set cost and the feasibility of the ideas are compared, there will be an incomparable situation. It will be an interesting line of business to produce not only sets, but even actors.
It looks like the gaming world will go to a whole new dimension. Characters, environments, game ideas… We will find ourselves in unimaginable worlds. With the development of VR technology, the artificial intelligence experience will also take a crazy dimension.
We will see games and movies that will tell you whether you like the content you watch enough from the pupil of your eye, and the next part will be produced specifically for you. Maybe no one will watch the same series in a short time. These are all artificial intelligence. Event “We are now using Midjourney instead of Shutter.” Since it doesn’t exist, I can say that there is no end to it, we will read it until the morning. 🙂
Regardless of the sector, it should not be forgotten that the ability to adapt and learn quickly has never been more important. The Fourth Industrial Revolution sounds awful. Personally, I don’t have much fear, on the contrary, I am very excited.
Some of the digital visual artists are against artificial intelligence tools, and some even file lawsuits. They say that artists’ works are used in training artificial intelligence tools, which is actually the case. What do you think about this as an AI Artist?
As an AI artist, I find this topic very important and I’m glad you touched on it. I understand the concerns of artists and I think there should be regulations on this issue. There are many people working on artificial intelligence ethics, but since it is a very new subject for everyone, there are some areas that do not sit well, and it is natural that there are some.
It is necessary to answer by considering the functioning of artificial intelligence. Mentioning an artist’s name directly on the prompt will not be evaluated in the same way as artificial intelligence combining millions of data from the cumulative data and producing a brand new thing suitable for the prompt. Maybe some regulations, restrictions or royalty payment options can be introduced in the prompting section. This is my opinion that knows zero laws, those who are competent will have better solutions.
I personally think that the making, meaning and form of art will transform and we will experience the second renaissance. Artificial intelligence is a technology that gives machines the ability to learn and will continue to be fed by content produced by humans.
We cannot imagine its capacity, there are so many possibilities. Painters can take inspiration from artificial intelligence and produce an oil painting. Someone who doesn’t have painting skills but has a good idea can create an image in oil painting style. Why wouldn’t someone who has no imagination but a highly developed dexterity make some very interesting earthen pots inspired by artificial intelligence? Considering all these positive possibilities for the development of humanity, I believe that copyright issues will be resolved by protecting the interests of both parties.
One thing that bothers me about artificial intelligence and ethics and affects a wider audience is that the outputs are racist, sexist and homophobic because they are the cumulative consciousness of society. If you do not prescribe a female doctor, all doctors may be male. If you don’t specify skin color, people come out with white skin. I think there is an urgent need for a regulation on this issue. I haven’t heard of anything being done yet, hopefully someone is working on it.
Images prepared with artificial intelligence are not subject to copyright. What is your reaction when someone uses the work you have prepared with great effort?
I can explain the functioning of artificial intelligence, which I mentioned in the previous question, a little more here. In fact, you are not using the prepared studies, but the visual data snippets of the studies that correspond to the language taught to the machine. Specifically, unless you enter a person’s style, someone’s face, or their name as a prompt, it is not possible to distinguish who owns the data used, and therefore the resulting visual prompt may not belong to anyone other than the one who entered it.
For example, you will create a fashion shoot image. Artificial intelligence, which has been taught the visuals of millions of fashion shoots around the world, will create an inimitable and inimitable visual according to the new idea, that is, the prompt. It is impossible to give copyright to all fashion photographers in the world for this image, and on what basis will you give it?
I don’t know which one of the millions of data entered to correspond to the word “studio light” can be traced. It is not clear who will decide which of these data is creativity and which is technical knowledge. In fact, there is no inspired face or a first product that the final product resembles. All of them are the joint work of trillions of data and artificial intelligence artists.
You are using a data fragment. You just do this with neurons that a human’s capacity has never reached and cannot reach until now. Your idea is actually combined with the cumulative output of all producers. This is an evolution and it is not possible to stop it. It might make more sense to say “what can I do here” instead of being against it in terms of survival?
The following image comes to my mind on such matters:
When you first look at it, you think “Hehe, what nonsense!” you say. When you read the small text below, you realize that the teachers are actually right, but you also remember that we cannot do anything about it. The basic evolutionary logic works here as well. Innovation is not good or bad, it just “happens”.
There’s a calculator in every tool that kids have access to right now, and that’s not an issue. They may not (or do) understand the basic concepts of math because they don’t need it. Just because they have access to a calculator does not mean that they will not be able to produce or do anything else while spending time doing basic operations.
Can we briefly get your opinions on the following content we prepared using Midjourney? 🙂
Thank you, I would like to especially point out that the sculptures are wonderful. Should we send an e-mail to the municipalities? 🙂 I loved the idea of superheroes, I would also like to add “hyper realistic” to the prompt and see what they would be like.
Can you prepare a visual from Midjourney for Webtekno readers? Let the theme be entirely yours. 🙂
I believe that as machines learn to think like humans, humans will also become machines. With developing medical technologies and the use of artificial intelligence in medicine, humans will make their own evolution for the first time. That’s why I wanted to come up with a slightly dystopian theme that pays homage to the ancients. Isn’t it a strange feeling to look into the eyes of a person who never existed and will never exist?
Let’s end our content with this wonderful image that Merve has prepared for Webtekno:
