YouTube Shorts content producers will be able to create new content by trimming moments from another user’s YouTube video or Shorts video for a certain period of time. Content producers will be able to disable their videos from being used by another user for Short content if they wish.
Create Shorts by trimming sections from videos
YouTube is adding a new feature to Shorts. YouTube Shorts, which previously allowed only audio clips to be taken from other people’s video, now expands it to 1 to 5 second segments. Shorts creators will be able to access the feature via the Create option by going to a supported video.
Shorts videos that contain clips from another video will automatically include a reference to the original video. Users who do not want their videos to be trimmed will be able to turn off the use of this feature via YouTube Studio.
The ability to import clips from another video will be available for iOS users in the coming weeks and will be expanded to Android users later in the year.

YouTube Shorts videos could only be viewed on mobile apps until now, but the platform has announced that it will be available for web and tablet users in the next few weeks.
