YouTube is allegedly in talks with some leading media companies to stream its TV shows and movies in a hub of ad-supported channels. YouTube has already begun testing this idea, allegedly to gauge the interest of viewers. The platform may also roll out this streaming hub to more users later this year.

If YouTube implements the plan, it will have entered a market known in the industry as Free and Ad-Supported Television Streaming, or FAST. Players in this space include Roku, Fox’s Tubi, and Pluto TV, owned by Paramount Global (formerly ViacomCBS). Depending on what content it offers and how it sets up the channels, YouTube’s move could lower viewership for those channels.

YouTube has confirmed that it is running a test where a small number of users can watch ad-supported channels. “We’re always looking for new ways to give viewers a central place to find, watch and share the content that matters most to them,” he said in a statement.

The service is said to be collaborating with companies like Lionsgate, AE Networks, and FilmRise for testing. For media companies, such channels can offer a new way to generate additional revenue from content. Because we are sure that it will be useful for TV broadcasters to broadcast their own programs on YouTube with advertising support.
