In November, YouTube removed public dislikes “to protect creators.” Although this decision drew the reaction of users, CEO Susan Wojcicki put an end to the controversy by stating in an interview that the dislike button will not be reinstated.

YouTube brings ‘react with emojis’ to videos as an alternative to dislikes. While this system has not been implemented yet, the company has now made a small but important innovation in the like button.

YouTube added animation to the like button

YouTube introduced the animated like button with the update it released for Android and iOS devices. While the old classic button was removed, a confetti-style animation consisting of a mixture of red / pink / yellow colors appears when a video is liked.

While the company makes the said innovation available only on mobile devices, the “Like” button on the website, which can be accessed from www.youtube.com, does not have animation. Also, the same innovation is not found in the “Like” button, it works simply as before.

The animated like button, which has been in the testing phase for about a month and is available to a limited number of users, is also available on the popular music platform Spotify and the social media application Twitter. Twitter, which was bought by Elon Musk for $ 44 billion, is also working on the “edit tweet” feature in addition to animation.

Emoji reaction feature is on the way

“Timed Reactions” feature has started to be tested as an alternative to dislike button on YouTube videos. A new feature that allows emojis such as laughter, heart, smiley face, surprise and similar emojis for a certain second of a video is under development and is expected to be available soon.
