YouTube, the world’s most popular online video and live broadcasting platform, recently started testing a new feature that drew the reaction of users. Users included in the testing phase could only use 4K resolution support if they were YouTube Premium. In other words, YouTube aimed to make the free version of the platform, which it already filled with ads, unusable in high definition in general.
However, there has been a new development in this regard. The Twitter account TeamYouTube, which looks at technical problems with YouTube and makes official statements about updates, made a new statement on the subject. In the statement, it was stated that the feature that makes 4K resolution support exclusive to Premium has been permanently canceled.
Here is TeamYouTube’s statement on the subject:
“We’ve completely turned off testing this new feature. Viewers can now watch 4K video without a Premium subscription…”
The statements made by the YouTube technical team mean that 4K resolution support is open to all users again. However, there is no information that this situation will not change again in the future. The platform may take a new decision after things settle down and people forget about it…
