YouTube, the world’s most popular video platform, has literally evolved since its inception. The platform is currently seen by some as both information and entertainment and the only solution to their problems.
On the other hand, YouTube Premium, YouTube’s Premium subscription system, has also changed quite a bit since its debut in 2014. Initially known as the Music Key, this subscription system has over time become the key to getting rid of the escalating ads.
10 ads is not enough, put 100
US and Canadian users on popular forum site Reddit and Twitter have started complaining that YouTube is placing 10 non-stopping ads at the beginning of the video and in between. Although these ads are 5-6 seconds long, this means a total loss of 1 minute of time. Users, who stated that they see 10 of these ads every 4-5 minutes, are very angry that YouTube brought this system. Users also state that they often experience these ads on mobile devices and Android TV Boxes.
Some of the users on the forums say that they saw 10 ads at the beginning of the video, some of them 5 ads, some of them 8 ads. The number of ads varies for most users, but the majority of those who see these ads state that they have seen 10 ads. Many users describe this situation as YouTube’s selling more Premium subscriptions and “harassing” free users.
Answering the questions asked on Twitter, YouTube officials announced that this new ad system is still in the testing phase and different numbers of ads are shown to different users.
