YouTube is one of the leading video sharing platforms. The platform, where almost every video can be found, has been adopted by almost everyone. Of course, there are so many fake accounts and spam on a platform like YouTube where there are so many users and content. YouTube has also started to take new measures against these situations.

YouTube outlines measures for scam and spam comments

In a statement on Twitter, YouTube announced that it is working on three new measures against fake accounts and spam comments that impersonate creators. The first of these will be the removal of the feature to hide the subscriber count. In addition, comments control will be improved while restricting special characters in usernames.

YouTube hopes that removing the ability to hide subscriber counts will prevent people from impersonating creators. YouTubers complain a lot about this issue. People who use the logo and name of their big channels are defrauding their followers in this way. The feature of hiding subscriber counts will be removed on July 29.

YouTube brings an ‘Increase Discipline’ option for comment moderation. With this option, comments under the content will start to be moderated in 100 different languages. Comments stuck in this control will be ‘held for review’. Comments will need to be approved by the creator himself in order for them to appear under the video.

YouTube also limits special characters to avoid fake channels. So a scammer will not be able to open a channel with a name like “$hiftdélété”. Although this example is very obvious, malicious people can defraud many people with minor character changes.

YouTube has not yet announced when the special character restriction and comment moderation will kick in. However, these features are expected to be available in the near future.
