YouTube, which has videos in many different categories, started to give more importance to the podcast market. YouTube plans to offer a podcast page and some podcast-related innovations as audio content.

YouTube Podcast details have also started to emerge after an 84-page business presentation was leaked showing YouTube’s new roadmap. The video platform wants to improve its audio service by offering a home page dedicated to podcasts.

YouTube completely revamped for its podcast page

YouTube documents leaked online by Podnews aim to solve some of the most challenging problems in the podcast world, including market discovery and analysis. YouTube wants to make it easy to upload and discover content through a podcast-specific homepage.

In the presentation, YouTube gathered some of the ideas and services it was considering for the podcast in a section called ‘Looking Ahead’. Two concepts are mentioned in this chapter: Ingestion and Search/Discovery.

Under the Intake header, YouTube explains that it wants to “make improvements (eg RSS) to make it easier to upload podcasts to YouTube.” In Search and Discovery, there is a section that is not yet functional. In this section, as you can guess from the name, it is aimed to bring podcasts to the fore and present a special page to the user.

The company plans to release the podcast update at YouTube.com/podcasts. The link doesn’t work yet, but it doesn’t automatically redirect to the YouTube homepage either; this may be an indication that YouTube is actively running.

The Google-owned platform had offered deals to some creators to produce podcasts and post them on YouTube. According to Bloomberg, some creators would be paid between $50,000 and $300,000.

YouTube is entering the podcast world at the same time as its two prominent rivals, Spotify and Apple. Earlier, Spotify announced a feature that improves the podcast experience. Insider Intelligence eMarketer announced that Spotify had the largest share of podcast spending in 2020 with 51 percent.
