YouTube Go, which was available in regions with problematic internet connections and where high-end smartphones did not sell well, offered a lighter usage than the standard YouTube application. YouTube Go will become unusable in August as it is no longer very useful.

The YouTube team has announced the end of the road for YouTube alternative YouTube Go. YouTube Go was lighter to use, plus users could download videos to watch later. The YouTube team has stated that YouTube Go is no longer necessary thanks to performance updates and features coming to the standard YouTube app.

Also with YouTube Premium now the standard app also allows video downloads. The team also noted that there will be new improvements to the standard YouTube app for people with slow internet connections. Google directed YouTube Go users to download the standard YouTube app.
