YouTube, one of the most popular video streaming platforms in the world, made a statement for the dislike button with a statement on November 10, 2021. Explaining that the videos will hide the number of dislikes in the new period, Jawed Karim, one of the founders of the platform, broke his silence on the subject.

Karim: ‘YouTube didn’t make the right decision’

Founded in February 2005 by Steve Cahen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim, YouTube is the second most visited website in the world, currently reaching more than two billion users per month. YouTube, which was bought by Google for a full $1.65 billion just a year after its establishment, has been managed by Google since then and offers different features to users periodically.

As of the day, Karim, who made a statement about YouTube hiding the dislike numbers in the new period, argued that the company’s decision was very wrong and that this would do more harm than good for content producers.

Here are Karim’s comments:

“Why is YouTube making this ‘disliked’ change? There’s a reason, but it’s not a good reason and it’s not something to be made public. Being able to detect bad content easily and quickly is a key feature of the user-generated content platform. So why? Because not all user-generated content is good. ”

Jawed Karim

This is not the first time YouTube co-founder Jawed Karim has made such an exit. The company, which integrated YouTube with Google+ in 2013, required all users to have a Google+ account to comment on videos.

Jawed Karim reacts to YouTube’s Google+ imperative.

Commenting on the video titled ‘Me at the Zoo’, the first video uploaded to YouTube on the same day, Karim questioned why he had to have a Google+ account to be able to comment on the videos.

So what do you guys think about Jawed Karim’s debut? Do you think removing the dislike feature is a wrong decision? Do not forget to share your views with us in the comments section.
