Facebook had a weird bug today that flooded its user streams with endless posts from famous accounts. Many people trying to use the social media network have had the same problem, and their main news feeds have been flooded with small posts posted to the pages for artists like Lady Gaga, Nirvana, and The Beatles. Fortunately, this issue seems to have been resolved after three hours of chaos.
Users were quick to exploit the bug and mime celebrities they knew would be shared everywhere. For example, an image of a turkey sandwich quickly spread across all accounts.
Other users tried to exploit the situation by spamming PayPal donation links or promoting cryptocurrency projects.
While it doesn’t seem like an outage in the traditional sense, users have taken to Downdetector to report issues. However, a board from Meta was reporting no issues during the period. Meta has not yet made a statement on the subject…
