Facebook and Instagram posts are now processed by artificial intelligence
According to Reuters, Meta used public posts for training, while avoiding private posts with family and friends and private chats on the messaging service. “We tried to exclude datasets that were heavily dominated by personal information,” Nick Clegg, Head of Meta Global Affairs, said at the Meta Connect conference. Clegg added that the “vast majority” of the data Meta uses to train its AI assistants is publicly available.
Last week, Meta announced a range of AI chatbots across messaging platforms including WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger. The chatbot can help with things like answering questions, planning trips, and creating images from text prompts. The assistant will also be able to provide real-time results from Microsoft’s Bing search. Meta’s models are based in part on the LLaMA 2 language model released in July.
In addition to its general assistant, the company is rolling out 28 AI-powered characters across its messaging platforms, including several characters modeled after celebrities like Snoop Dogg, Kendall Jenner and Tom Brady. Chatbots were recently launched in beta, but are not yet available for general use.
