It is thought that the Android lock screen may also see some changes after Apple announced the changes it will bring for the iOS 16 lock screen. However, these changes may not be very happy. Mobile advertising company Glance plans to roll out its lock screen platform to Android devices in the US within the next two months, TechCrunch reports.

According to the report, Glance is in talks with US wireless carriers and plans to roll out the ad service to several smartphones within the next month. Glance did not make any statement against the allegations. The firm is a subsidiary of InMobi, an India-based mobile marketing platform. It is known as an extremely successful startup in India.

Glance comes pre-installed on many Android devices overseas, including Samsung’s budget smartphones. It is not an Android application in the traditional sense, it is located above the Android operating system as a kind of parent program. Glance is also a key part of the Pragati operating system, a custom version of Android developed between Google and Jio for affordable smartphones like the Jio Phone Next.

The app is essentially a dynamic lock screen. When you open the phone screen, you see a different wallpaper, news headlines and updated content such as video. However, there are also advertisements. When you turn on the phone, this content is deleted from the screen, but it may reappear from time to time. Earlier this year, Glance launched an Android TV experience for Indian customers, promising users the ability to interact directly with their favorite stars in real-time on their TV home screens.

Nothing has been officially announced by Glance, but the presence of ads on Android smartphones has become a real concern over the past few years. If phone companies continue to tolerate such forced advertisements, complaints on the Android platform are likely to increase. This could mean good news for Apple, which controls its advertising models much more tightly.
