A new study has revealed the generational divide in smartphone preferences. While youngsters (or Gen Z) see Android phones as outdated; adults love the customization options. Here are Android and iPhone usage by age.

Research: 87% of teens prefer iPhone

According to a new study conducted in the USA, iPhone usage rates far exceed Android. For teenagers who grew up with smartphones, Android devices represent their parents’ obsolete phones. Also, Android devices lag behind iPhone’s features.

In fact, the research showed that many Android users in the US have become “the object of ridicule”. Many high school Android users are criticized by their iOS-owning peers. According to these young people, Android devices have already completed their milestone.

Currently, Apple is by far ahead of Android with 57 percent to 42 percent of the US market share. Also, a survey conducted last year showed that 87 percent of teens own an iPhone and will continue to use it.

On the other hand, Android is ahead of Apple worldwide. Android owns 71% of the global smartphone market and Apple owns 28%. This suggests users in other countries are diverging from the US.

Contrary to what young people think, the compatibility between Android and iPhone is having its best period of all time. For example, Android has Nearby Share similar to AirDrop. It also offers iPhone-like features with Android messaging app RCS support.
