The UK is working on a system of restricting young drivers’ driving. Accordingly, the authorities are considering the warnings that new drivers under the age of 25 should not take their friends with them as passengers.
UK Highways Minister Richard Holden said in a statement that they are working on introducing a system called “progressive licensing” to new drivers under the age of 25. So what is this progressive license?
‘Progressive driver’s license’ could reduce traffic accidents
Minister Holden announced that he will consider calls for new drivers under the age of 25 not to take their friends as passengers by changing the driving license rules in England for road safety.
This practice, called ‘progressive driver’s license’, will prevent anyone who passes the driver’s license test before the age of 25 from being allowed to carry other people of similar age. Young people will have to wait a year before leaving their peers home, according to the practice.
Under current legislation, novice drivers have a two-year probationary period during which they are only allowed to accumulate six penalty points before their license is revoked. Parliament will consider the future of the Road Traffic New Drivers Act next month and act on Highways Minister Holden’s plans for amendments for May 16.
Authorities announced that they will evaluate this idea, since young people are involved in a large percentage of the increasing traffic accidents. It is thought that this application will prevent most of the accidents.
So how is the practice in our country?
In fact, the system currently used by the UK is quite similar to the current system in our country. Currently, people who get a new driver’s license, regardless of age, are called “prospective drivers” for a period of 2 years. Although they have almost the same opportunities as regular driver’s license holders, of course, there are slight differences in some points.
According to our practice, drivers who get a new license can drive up to 0.20 promil alcohol for 2 years. If they pass this promile, their license will be revoked regardless of the penalty score. For normal license holders, this level is 0.50 promil. In addition, drivers pay fines and their licenses are confiscated for 2 months.
On the other hand, there are some differences in penalty points. Prospective drivers are only allowed to accumulate 75 penalty points over two years. If this is passed, the license will be revoked. For standard driver’s license holders, on the other hand, this period is limited to 100 penalty points per year, and in case of passing, the driver’s license is confiscated for 2 months.
Contrary to a common belief, candidate drivers can go out of the city alone for 2 years and make long journeys.
