Xiaomi, one of the important names in the technology world, appeals to a wide range of electronic products. The company, which wants to spread its success in the smartphone world to other areas and make its own ecosystem, is preparing to step into the electric car world as it has been talked about for a long time.
Xiaomi tests a ceiling lidar sensor for its autonomous vehicle
It was said that Xiaomi, which has reached a significant audience with its production in many areas, will also enter the electric car sector. Recently, it has been said by many sources that this vehicle will be autonomous. The latest image justifies these rumors.
Earlier, the CEO of the company, Lei Jun, stated that Xiaomi will introduce the prototype of the electric car in the third quarter of 2022. It seems that the company is testing the prototype of the vehicle on the roads. A car blogger using the username Deroy shared a photo of Xiaomi’s autonomous vehicle on the Weibo platform.
In the shared image, a lidar sensor stands out on the roof of the vehicle. It was stated in Webio that the design, which received positive feedback from the users, was only a test tool, and that there would probably be some changes in the design.
In the statement, Xiaomi used the vehicle in the image in traffic to try more lidar sensors. On the other hand, the CEO of the company, Lei Jun, had previously stated that the vehicle intended to be launched would be a sedan or an SUV.
Allocating a large budget to the electric car world, the company aims to introduce its first vehicle in 2024. In line with this goal, the company, which created a sub-brand called Xiaomi Automobile Co, continues to work with a founding capital of $ 1.57 billion and more than 500 employees. The company, which wants to gradually enlarge this production line, continues to build a facility that can produce more than 300,000 vehicles per year.
