Xiaomi continues to take important steps in under-screen camera technologies. The latest patent in China deals with Xiaomi’s design of a device with under-screen cameras on both the front and back. Placing the rear cameras under the screen winks at transparent screens.
Xiaomi patents under-display rear and front cameras
The new patent, noticed by Chinese sources, shows that Xiaomi has invested in under-screen camera technology. Patent images show that a device similar to the Mi Mix Alpha introduced in 2019 has cameras embedded in the case on the back and front.
Looking at the patent, we see an almost 360-degree display from back to front. However, a certain part of the spiral screen has a vertical stripe. This strip, which coincides with the back of the device, includes camera installations.
The patent also emphasizes the positioning of under-screen cameras, one on the front of the phone and three on the back of the phone.
Xiaomi had switched to the under-screen camera with the Mi Mix 4, which it launched in 2021. However, the implementation of under-screen technology for the rear cameras seems to open a new page in the smartphone industry.
Today, some Chinese manufacturers have moved their selfie cameras under the screen. However, it is not popularly preferred due to problems such as image quality, low-light performance and long-term shooting.
This patent, which Xiaomi received in China, is quite remarkable. However, it should be noted that this is only a patent application and the images do not reflect a real device.
