Chinese technology giant Xiaomi has announced that it will spend $15.17 billion on research and development in the next 5 years in order to dethrone the world’s largest smartphone brands.
Xiaomi’s founder and CEO, Lei Jun, directly challenged Apple, Samsung and other Chinese brands, while saying in a statement that the company will become the No. 1 high-end brand in China in the next 3 years. Saying that Xiaomi’s strategic goal is to become the largest smartphone brand in 3 years, Jun announced these statements from China’s largest social media site Weibo.
There are important brands such as OPPO, OnePlus, Vivo, Huawei in China. However, the fact that Huawei lost the floor due to its problems with the USA created an important opportunity for other Chinese technology giants, and Xiaomi took advantage of this opportunity and settled behind Apple and Samsung. Now, Xiaomi, whose goal is to surpass Apple and Samsung, has its eyes on the leadership seat.
On the other hand, Xiaomi plans to open 20 thousand new retail stores in China in the next 3 years, thus increasing the total number of stores to 30 thousand.
