From time to time, we witness cooperation between smartphone and camera manufacturers. In this context, the longest agreement was between Leica and Huawei; The fact that the Chinese company had to produce fewer phones due to the problems it had with the USA led Leica to seek a new business partner.
The German camera giant launched its first self-branded smartphone last June as part of its partnership with Japan-based Sharp. While it was said that Xiaomi will join forces with Leica and that Leica’s camera sensors will be used in the 12 Ultra, now the official statement has come.
Will Xiaomi 12 Ultra be signed by Leica?
Xiaomi announced in a press release that they have entered into a strategic cooperation with Leica. He also stated that they are developing an ambitious joint smartphone with its camera and it will be released in July. However, although it does not share the name or other details of the model, it is estimated that the device in question will be the Xiaomi 12 Ultra.
A statement was also received from the authorized persons on the subject. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun emphasized that they always strive to maximize the user experience. Stating that they are working to raise the bar for mobile photography, Lei Jun stated that they have a common vision with Leica in this context and said:
“This cooperation will provide a strong support to Xiaomi’s imaging strategy. During the collaboration, innovative technologies, product philosophies and imaging preferences from both sides collided and coalesced at an unprecedented depth, from optical design to aesthetic directions.”
On the other hand, Leica CEO Matthias Harsch stated that the upcoming Xiaomi flagship will usher in a new era in mobile photography:
We are honored to announce our long-term strategic cooperation. Leica and Xiaomi are both global premium brands, and in this unprecedented deep collaboration, both parties have successfully worked on the goal of ushering in a new era of mobile photography for customers.”
