Trailers and gameplay footage of games such as Starfield, Avowed and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II were shared at the Xbox 2023 Showcase event, which took place at the beginning of last week. We are all very excited for new games.

However, we did not see anything about the Gears of War and Halo series, which are the first games that come to mind when Microsoft and Xbox are mentioned. Then Phil Spencer explained why in an interview.

Looks like the company no longer ‘needs’ these series

In an interview with The Guardian, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said that we should expect to see series such as Halo and Gears of War less in the future, because the company doesn’t need them much anymore. Spencer said, “I don’t mean to say that Halo is less important, but we now have more than 20 studios. I’ll basically go back to the years when I had four games – Fable, Forza, Halo, Gears… the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Now we have a lot more games.” said.

It is thought that Halo Infinite, which was released in 2021 and is still a live game, has a very problematic development process. As you know, there were many resignations at 343 Industries, which developed Halo. Although the series has not been shelved, as you can see, it has been thrown into the background.

Xbox Game Studio boss Matt Booty said, ‘When will we see a new Halo game?’ He answered the question as follows:

“We’ve been pretty open about the leadership change at 343 Industries. You can see that at some of the social events the team has done over the seasons, but I don’t want to force them to talk about their long-term vision until they’re ready. I think you’re going to see some pretty cool things coming.”

In short, nothing has been officially said. However, according to reliable source rumors, a studio called Certain Affinity is developing Halo in a battle royale genre in the style of Escape from Tarkov. Let’s see what awaits us for Halo in the future.
