Marvel announced that the Daredevil character, who last appeared in the Netflix series last year, would return with a brand new series to be broadcast on Disney +. It was stated that Charlie Cox would portray the beloved character again in the series, which will be called Daredevil: Born Again.

Today, there have been important developments regarding the series, which is expected to be released in 2024. According to the news shared by The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Marvel has decided to part ways with the series’ writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman.

Almost half of the series was shot

The production of Daredevil: Born Again, like other productions, was stopped due to the ongoing actor strike in Hollywood. According to the information received, almost half of the 18-episode series had been completed before this. However, Marvel executives, including President Kevin Feige, watched the completed episodes and decided that the series was not going as planned.

After this, Ord and Corman duo were dismissed. Marvel has also parted ways with the directors who will direct the remaining episodes. Certain parts of the completed episodes of the series will be used; However, it was also among the information received that there would be a general renewal process. The giant studio is currently looking for a new creative team consisting of writers and directors for the series.

THR says that the series could not convey the atmosphere of the Netflix version, which also influenced the decision. According to the news, Ord and Corman moved contrary to the action and violent approach on Netflix and focused on the legal side of Matt Murdock (Daredevil), who is actually a lawyer. In fact, Charlie Cox didn’t even wear the Daredevil costume until the fourth episode. This course of the series caused the writers to part ways.

The Daredevil: Born Again series, whose shooting has not yet continued due to strikes, was originally expected in 2024. However, with today’s developments, we can see the possibility of this date being postponed. In the production, in addition to Cox, we will see Vincent D’Onofrio again in the role of Kingpin.

Marvel wants to change its approach to series in general

Daredevil: Born Again is the latest in Marvel’s recent series of problems. The company did not take traditional approaches in its series. For example, he appointed film executives to direct his series instead of experienced names on the television side. He was also trying to fix things he didn’t like during the post-production process or with reshoots, just like the MCU movies.

That’s why he was under criticism. According to THR, those working at Marvel stated that the studio had no vision and that the series should center on the writers. Such problems were already felt in She-Hulk, Secret Invasion and many other TV series. For example, the scripts of Secret Invasion, which is described as Marvel’s worst series, were initially written by Mr. It said Kyle Bradstreet, who also worked on Robot. However, Bradstreet was subsequently fired and replaced by writer Brian Tucker, who had worked on films.

In short, even though Marvel series were at the top in terms of viewing on Disney +, they were receiving negative feedback. That’s why the company decided to make radical changes on the television side. He now plans to hire people who are experienced in directing TV series, not movies, and who will give more importance to the creative side.

Marvel is also considering doing away with the single-season “miniseries” thing. Instead, it aims to focus on series that have more than one season, will allow characters to develop over the seasons, and that viewers can relate to. We will see whether these plans will work or not when the TV series comes out.
