A statement came from the German automobile giant Mercedes-Benz that will change the course of the industry. According to the official statement made in the past days, the brand’s autonomous driving system “Drive Pilot” has been officially approved as the world’s first third level autonomous driving system. Moreover, Mercedes-Benz will make this autonomous driving system available to drivers in the very near future.

Although autonomous driving systems have been spreading more and more in recent years, there is no official brand that can pass the second level. Mercedes-Benz showed its difference exactly at this point. Drive Pilot embodies all the standards offered for the third level by the American Association of Automotive Engineers, which sets standards for autonomous driving systems.

So, to what extent will Drive Pilot help drivers?

According to the statement made by Mercedes-Benz, the third level autonomous driving system will be controlled by two buttons that will be added to the place where the thumbs are located on the steering wheel. When the system is activated, on highways or in high traffic areas, the control will be out of the driver. The vehicle will travel completely independently in the city at speeds up to 40 km/h. From the traffic lights to the surrounding traffic, it will be followed by the Drive Pilot. The emergency control will also be done by Drive Pilot.

Drive Pilot is equipped with LiDAR sensors. The autonomous driving system, which includes an ultra-detailed map system in its algorithm, will constantly update this map with the data it receives from the vehicles. In this way, the best possible navigation service will be provided. Mercedes-Benz states that the driver who activates Drive Pilot can perform a second activity, such as playing with his phone.

Will be available to drivers in the second half of 2023

According to Mercedes-Benz, the third-level autonomous driving system will be available for the first time in the 2024 model EQS and the 2024 model S-Class. The company states that these two cars will be launched in the second half of 2023, while deliveries will be made in late 2023 or early 2024.

So how much does the 2023 EQS cost?
