16 MW offshore wind turbine in just 24 hours
Goldwind is actually a company familiar with these records. If you remember, we told you in the past months that the GWH252-16MW wind turbine of the same company broke the production record during the storm. The turbine produced 384.1 megawatt-hours (the energy needs of 170,000 homes) in 24 hours. The current record comes during the construction of the same turbine.
In its post, the company announced that it broke a world record by installing the GWH252-16MW turbine in the open sea in just 24 hours. The company states that it achieves this “by using strategies that pre-optimize processes through stimulation.” As can be understood, these statements are devoid of technical details.
In any case, Goldwind says the fast process reduced construction costs and is a method he will use again. The rapid construction of these types of turbines is of great importance to increase the offshore wind potential in future projects. Meanwhile, GWH252-16MW has a rotor diameter of 252 meters and a sweeping area of approximately 50,000 square meters (7 football fields).
