It was reported that famous rapper Wiz Khalifa’s X (formerly Twitter) account was hacked on November 3 and a memecoin named “WIZ” was introduced from his account.
The WIZ memecoin was launched on pump.fun, a Solana-based memecoin generating platform, and reached a market cap of $3.4 million in just 15 minutes. However, within an hour, memecoin’s market cap plummeted to below $28,000. According to DEX Screener data, the current value of the WIZ token is approximately $8,400.
According to data from Solscan, the two largest wallets purchased a total of 155 million WIZ tokens for $19,100 at launch, making a profit of $160,000 from the sale of these tokens.
The identity of the hacker is still unknown
The identity of the person who carried out the attack and how Khalifa’s account was hacked have not yet been confirmed. However, blockchain researcher ZachXBT thinks that the hacker who took over Truth Terminal developer Andy Ayrey’s X account on October 29 may have attacked Khalifa’s account with the same method.
“Do not buy the Wiz Khalifa Pump Fun [token], this is the same hacker who took over Andy Ayrey’s (Truth Terminal creator) account,” ZachXBT warned its followers in a statement in the Telegram group on November 3.
A similar attack occurred last week
Although posts about the memecoin promotion on Wiz Khalifa’s X account have been deleted, it is not yet clear whether the rapper’s account has been reinstated. Last week, on October 29, Andy Ayrey’s X account was also hacked. Hackers made $1.5 million from memecoins using Ayrey’s profile.
Truth Terminal is known as an artificial intelligence bot that brought a memecoin called Goatseus Maximus (GOAT) to a peak of $940 million. However, according to DEX Screener data, the market cap of the GOAT token is currently at $544 million, indicating a 39 percent decline from its peak on October 24.
