Popular apps expected to take action
During the WWDC 2022 keynote, Apple announced that users will be able to initiate, end, or mute VoIP calls from Apple Watch in supported apps such as Webex. This means that Apple Watch owners can make calls over the internet using their watch.
Apple has released CallKit, a developer tool that allows developers to offer the ability to initiate, end or reject VoIP calls directly from the Apple Watch. If teams of popular apps like Skype, WhatsApp, and Telegram take the leap and integrate CallKit into their software, Apple Watch owners will be able to make free calls directly from the watch through these services.
