With FIFA 23, cheaters come in for a big shock: No more cheating!

Electronic Arts seems determined to keep cheaters away from its new game. When FIFA 23 arrives on September 30, it will also come with a core-level anti-cheat system.

According to the publisher, the move aims to thwart PC cheats, which are increasingly creating kernel-level vulnerabilities that OS-level anti-cheat tools fail to detect, and ensure “fair play”.

Elise Murphy, EA’s senior director of game security and anti-cheat, wrote in a blog post that the company produces EA AntiCheat (EAAC) because “third-party anti-cheat solutions are often incomprehensible to teams and prevent us from exercising additional privacy.” Controls or customizations that provide greater accuracy and granularity for mods will come and will be able to directly address security issues.

EAAC will not be used in all EA games, although the publisher says it’s required for online-focused competitive games like FIFA 23. This year’s release includes cross-play support and, in theory, EAAC will ensure console gamers are protected from cheaters on PC. Also, games that don’t have leaderboards or a competitive system can have different anti-cheat approaches. So it wouldn’t be a surprise to see EA add EAAC to games like Apex Legends, but it won’t be available for It Takes Two, which was named Game of the Year in 2021, for example.

This tool will only be active when running a game with EAAC on your PC. When you remove all EA games using this system from the system, EAAC will also be removed from the system. It is also possible to remove EAAC manually, but then FIFA 23-like games cannot be played. It is also stated that EAAC will not reduce in-game performance.
