Microsoft recently announced that it is working on adding native support for RAR archives to Windows 11. The Neowin portal, on the other hand, contacted the developers of the WinRAR program and asked them to comment on the subject.

Microsoft has tremendous power

WinRAR sales team member Louise Cusworth writes in her email that the company is “honored by Microsoft’s decision,” but adds: “Are we worried? Of course we are, because we are a small company and Microsoft is a large multibillion dollar international company with enormous power.”

Kasworth also writes that Microsoft’s decision will cause problems for WinRAR’s future operations. What this means is that the company hasn’t passed on its archiving algorithms to Windows developers. Therefore, operating system users will only be able to extract RAR archives using internal tools. To create them, as before, the WinRAR utility will need to be installed.
