In Formula 1, the 2022 season is much more one-sided compared to 2021. Red Bull driver Max Verstappen had a dominant performance throughout the season and came very close to the championship. In fact, the Dutch pilot had the chance to secure his second championship in a row in this race.
The race was quite different from the rest of the season due to the environmental conditions. We saw the safety car on the track three times in the race, which started late due to the intense race. In addition, the virtual security tool application was frequently used.
Chaos dominated the race without the right tire
All drivers started the race with transition tires with green side lines. Especially between 20.-35. There was no right choice of tires for the race between laps. Many drivers were out of the race during this interval due to various problems.
In this interesting race, we also saw some of the lesser known rules of Formula 1 applied. A race continues either until the specified number of laps is completed or until the 2 hour period +1 lap is completed. Very rarely in Singapore, the end of the race did not come when the laps were completed, but when the time expired.
Right at the start of the race, Sergio Perez managed to take the lead of the race, leaving behind Leclerc, who was the first to stand up. Verstappen fell a few places back as Magnussen made contact at the start of the race. Magnussen was called to the pits with orange and black flags. Zhou, Latifi, Alonso, Albon, Ocon and Tsunoda, who were on the 350th race of their career, could not complete the race for various reasons. Hamilton crashed and broke his front wing, while Verstappen pitted again and returned to the race as his brakes locked and went off the track. The examination of Perez as he got too close to the safety car also drew attention as a situation that could change who will go to the race win.
