Microsoft has developed a new Windows App or Windows Application for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, Windows and web browsers. The preview version of the Windows App is not currently available for Android. The app basically replaces the previous Windows 365 app. The new Windows app will serve as your gateway to Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, Microsoft Dev Box, Remote Desktop Services and remote computers, securely connecting you to Windows devices and applications.

New ‘Windows App’ released

The Windows application will be available on many different device types across different platforms and form factors, such as desktop and laptop computers, tablets, smartphones, and through a web browser. When using a web browser on a desktop or laptop computer, there will be no need to download and install any software.

There are indications that the application, which seems to be limited to Microsoft’s business accounts range for now, will also be offered to consumers in the future. However, many features are offered through the application: Supports such as multi-monitor support, custom screen resolutions, dynamic screen resolutions and scaling, redirection of devices such as webcams, audio, storage devices and printers are some of them. Microsoft has had similar applications for connecting to computers remotely for decades. Still, a dedicated “Windows App” is unusual and may signal Microsoft’s continued broader goals of moving Windows entirely to the cloud.
