The update (version 2022.2207.29.0), first released on the developer channel for Windows Insider users, adds a new feature to the camera app.
New Windows update has been problematic
Privacy cover notice
Microsoft will now detect and display a warning message on supported hardware such as the built-in camera on laptops with Windows 11 or the Microsoft modern webcam. If the cover is blocking the view or the laptop’s webcam privacy cover, tape, etc. camera app will inform and guide the user if it is covered by something.
The webcam on laptops has a slideable cover, also known as a privacy cover, that can be adjusted to cover the camera when not in use. It’s a much easier and more effective solution than physically disconnecting the camera for users who are worried about being watched by the app, site or malware all the time. However, sometimes the camera can be left off and forgotten. That’s why Microsoft released the update.
Update will be released in September
The camera app was last updated in July. It had a new design compatible with Windows 11 and the QR code and barcode scanning feature. The new feature of the Webcam application is currently being tested by users registered with the Insider program, and it is planned to be opened to all users in September.
