Winamp, which was once a must for our computers, continues to be used by old users, although it is not well known by the new generation. Now, Winamp aims to deliver innovations for fans as it moves towards growing bigger and appealing to creators.
Winamp’s administrators who want to increase its recognition want to turn it into more than just mp3 application. The company becomes a platform for musicians/creators to distribute, promote and of course profit from their work.
Winamp will offer Patreon-like platform
Winamp, along with its creator service, is not intended to rival online services like Spotify and Apple Music. Instead, it will try to offer musicians and creators – who will likely be amateur producers – the opportunity to reach different audiences. In fact, we can say that a service such as a Patreon-like platform will be offered for music.
Winamp legend updated years later
To use the service, which is limited to only 25,000 invitations for now, you need to visit Winamp’s site and fill out a short form to get Creator Pass. When you log into the service, you gain access to the free Winamp for Creators platform for one year. With this platform to be established, a subscription system for fans will also be created.
Currently, both amateur and professional music/creators are welcome to use platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. So it seems like it will be a difficult process for Winamp to keep up with the streaming and subscription age. On the other hand, increasing the number of users in order to maintain the income is another challenge for Winamp.
