Just a few months ago, seasoned Apple analysts claimed that Apple had abandoned its plans to launch the SE 4 due to doubts over the popularity and profitability of the iPhone SE series. The same analysts said that two months later, Apple resumed development of the iPhone SE 4. However, it was rumored that the company was targeting a much later release date for the small-sized iPhone than originally planned.
Now, reliable leakster Jeff Pu says that Apple will launch the new iPhone SE in 2025. This gives us a better idea of when the release date might be.
The latest iPhone SE model, the iPhone SE (2022), revived Apple’s classic but aging iPhone design with impressive performance for its price and 5G connectivity. The iPhone SE 4 is expected to bring the series in line with modern smartphone standards.
It is speculated that Apple will switch to a similar screen layout to the iPhone X, abandoning the large bezels and small screen size of the current iPhone SE. Reasonable leakster Ross Young also claims that the iPhone SE 4 will feature a 6.1-inch display and a notch. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo states that the new SE model will take over the OLED display used in Apple’s latest standard iPhone.
Both seem to agree that the iPhone SE will likely have Face ID capability. However, it seems possible that Apple will stick to Touch ID and place the sensor in a side button instead of the front.
If we look at the phone’s connectivity capabilities… Jeff Pu reports that Apple has developed a specially designed 5G modem that will be manufactured using a 4nm process by its chipmaker partner, TSMC. It is not yet clear whether this 5G chip will offer any performance or power efficiency improvements over competing modems made by Qualcomm analogues. However, it can be easily predicted that the iPhone SE 4 will offer a very good network connection for its class.
The iPhone SE (2022) was launched in March last year, while the iPhone SE (2020) was released two years earlier, in April 2020. If Pu’s 2025 release year prediction for the iPhone SE 4 is correct, it can be predicted that the phone will be released in the spring:
