So many video games have been adapted into movies by Hollywood lately that we can’t even guess which game is next. But when we think about it, one of the first names that comes to mind will of course be Fortnite. So, what are the chances of Fortnite transferring to Hollywood in the near future?
Speaking to Collider, Epic creative director Donald Mustard made it clear that there are no active plans for a movie (or series) based on the popular battle royale game. But given that Epic has financially invested in Joe and Anthony Russo’s production company AGBO, it’s clear that a Fortnite movie could be “green-lighted in a second.”
When Mustard was reminded of this situation, his response was: “We don’t have such an idea in mind as we have other things to work on right now.”
Still, Mustard seems clear on what to do for a Fortnite series or movie: “We always want to do something that feels authentic and has a great story. I know exactly the story I want, but that’s not the focus right now. We do not have time.”
Considering how popular the game has been since 2017, Epic should have no problem getting audiences involved. Although the incoming statements seem negative, it will definitely not be a surprise to see a Fortnite movie or series in the future. And when that happens, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t encounter a new movie classic.
