Will the world’s backup data be moved to the Moon?

In the past, we know that the great civilizations have written on the stone and rock to carry their cultural heritage to thousands of years later and that they have successfully achieved these goals. However, the data produced after the invention of paper and pencils are not even for a few hundred years, while the data stored in the digital age can become unusable within 10 years.

20 years ago, we can no longer access data, photos, videos and many of our digital diaries stored on CD/DVD with great enthusiasm. The data we record on the cloud today are deleted a few years after we stop paying the subscription fee of the cloud service.

Worse, if there are great disasters in the world, technological information, encyclopedias, banking records, title deed and population information that constitute the infrastructure of civilization may cause severe damage and even their backups may be lost.

For institutions and states who want to guarantee themselves in this regard, a company is now trying to make data backup on the month. Thus, no matter which catastrophe in the world, the backup of the data will be on the Moon.

Londestar Data Holdings, based in Florida, was founded in 2021 to provide data backup services over the month. In the International Space Station (ISS) in 2021 and 2022, Londar successfully tested the world’s first software -defined data center and then performed full data storage test on the surface of the Moon last year.

The first trial was made in 2024

The company, which performed a test after the IM-1 Odysseus Nova-C spacecraft landed in the South Pole last February, proved that it would be possible to transfers data effectively from the Moon to the world.

The company is now trying to send a data center that will stand fixed on the Moon to the Moon. These servers will work as a backup of major financial institutions and backup stations in the world. With the start of this service, we will be able to see that other companies have started to download and run servers with tiny rockets to the Moon.

However, first of all, the company will have to agree with NASA and SpaceX at an affordable price and place servers in the SpaceX Athena vehicle that will go down to the Moon. However, Elon Musk is currently not to the Moon, but because it is contented with NASA to go to Mars, this plan can extend for another 5-10 years.
