Sony’s flagship phones often face the same two main issues: one is price, and the other is the launch schedule, which leads them to go on sale long after they’re announced. Unfortunately, at least the latter of these seems to continue with the Sony Xperia 1 V.
According to Zackbuks, writing on Chinese social media site Weibo, the Sony Xperia 1 V will be released this year around the same time as the Sony Xperia 1 IV. Speaking specifically, it could be announced in May and go on sale in June.
This calendar may not sound so bad after all. But there are a few points to note. First of all, the specific dates in May and June last year meant that there was more than a month between the announcement of the Sony Xperia 1 IV and its launch, and that was only true for the UK. US users, on the other hand, could only start purchasing the phone in September.
Zackbuks is probably talking about Chinese dates here, and typically Sony’s flagship phones are shipped to China and Japan each. For example, the Sony Xperia 1 III went on sale in China in early June 2021. However, it was not able to enter US or UK territory until mid-August.
All of this leads to the conclusion that Sony likes to keep most of the world waiting for some reason. However, the passage of time naturally results in a decrease in interest in the phone. Moreover, when Sony’s flagships are released, the eyes are already on the new iPhone models.
Of course, this calendar is not conclusive, it’s just a claim. Sony may launch the Xperia 1 V globally in early June and surprise everyone this time.
