Covid-19 quarantine measures, which have been heavily applied in China in recent weeks, have also begun to force technology manufacturers. While production stopped at the factories of giant companies such as Apple and Tesla, a new statement came from Apple’s largest partner Foxconn for iPhone production.
Two Foxconn production lines in Kunshan, China shut down after the rise of Omicron cases, but the Apple partner was quick to comment. Foxconn factory officials said that they are determined that production expectations will not decrease.
How is iPhone production at Foxconn, which is struggling with quarantine?
Foxconn, Apple’s largest assembly supplier, had to close two of its four factories in Kunshan. The Chinese manufacturer, which has suspended production since last Wednesday, stated that this situation will not have an effect on iPhone stocks.
Foxconn officials said that although they did not explain which products were assembled in the closed factories, they would not have any problems on the supply side. Also, some reports revealed that the facilities affected by the Covid-19 quarantine are not major suppliers for Apple products. They also said that Foxconn may shift to other factories according to iPhone production needs.
Foxconn officials, who said, “We do not think there will be an impact on iPhones,” did not explain the conditions under which workers work. However, it was reported that some workers were closed to dormitories within the facility to stay at the factory.
“Since production was previously distributed to spare factories, the factory’s main products are in an overseas shipping warehouse and stock levels are still adequate, the impact of the quarantine on production will be limited.”
Heavy quarantine measures have been implemented in Shanghai and Kushan cities of the Asian country since April 15. As part of these measures, facilities in the country are temporarily closed, while a zero-tolerance approach to Covid-19 is being carried out.
However, the definitive statements from Foxconn are an indication that at least iPhone stocks will not be a problem and prices will not skyrocket.
