The non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, which is known for Wikipedia in particular and works based on donations in general, stops accepting donations via crypto money. The foundation has closed its Bitpay account. Wikimedia has been accepting donations via crypto since 2014.
Crypto donations were judged unethical
Editors, especially the Wikipedia editor GorillaWarefare (Molly White), made suggestions to the foundation against crypto donations. GorillaWarefare stated that crypto donations are an incredibly risky investment and that these donations go against the foundation’s sustainability missions. Molly White also stated that the Mozilla Foundation’s stop to Bitcoin donations inspired her.
