When Apple announced that it would introduce a mini iPhone model, the ‘iPhone 12 mini’, in 2020, it managed to attract attention on the smartphone front. In the first year the model went on sale, it was seen that there was an intense demand for the model on the front of users who preferred to use small phones, and when 2021 entered, Apple continued the series by introducing a new mini model, the ‘iPhone 13 mini’ device.
At this year’s 2022 Apple event, the expected ‘iPhone 14 mini’ as a new mini model was not introduced. This is how the ‘mini’ adventure of 2 series ended. Okay but why?
iPhone mini models did not see the expected interest in sales.
According to iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 13 Mini sales data shared by Consumer Research Intelligence Partners (CIRP), the models did not receive the expected attention. According to the report created by CIRP 2 months after the iPhone 12 went on sale, the iPhone 12 mini accounted for only 6% of iPhones sold within 2 months. In order to understand the low number, the report showed that the sales of another iPhone model, the iPhone 12, was 27%.
According to the sales data shared by the same institution for the iPhone 13 model in the quarter of March, only 3% of iPhone sales were iPhone 13 mini models. Apple’s 5.4-inch models ‘iPhone 12 mini’ and ’iPhone 13 mini’ failed to have a popular sales chart, making it clear that consumers don’t want a smaller flagship iPhone.
The iPhone SE model confuses users.
A mini iPhone model, due to ergonomics, the buyer who turns to small-sized phones; He is confused as to whether he should choose the flagship ‘iPhone mini’ model or the more affordable iPhone SE 3 model. For example, the 3rd generation iPhone SE and iPhone 13 mini come with Apple’s A15 chip. This means that although there is a big price difference between the two models, it basically offers the same processing power to its users.
When this is the case, the buyers who prefer small screen phones are also directed to the 3rd generation iPhone SE series, as it is an affordable and powerful model.
