With the launch of the iPhone 16, most iPhone users once again had to decide whether to renew their old phones or continue using them. Spending a significant amount on a new iPhone is not an easy decision, especially for those waiting for the iPhone 17.
For most users, the decision to renew the phone depends on how functional the new camera button is and how much they care about the Apple Intelligence features offered. You don’t need an iPhone 16 to access Apple’s other features that come with the new iOS 18 update.
According to Apple analyst Ming Chi-Kuo, iPhone 16 pre-orders were not as strong as iPhone 15 pre-orders a year ago. Reportedly, fewer people were excited to buy an iPhone 16.
Camera Control button and Action button
For those not interested in AI, most of the latest iPhone’s big innovations are on the hardware side. In addition to a new and more powerful CPU, battery improvements and two new buttons that were not found on the iPhone 15 (one of which was not only available on non-Pro models) are noteworthy. The Camera Control key opens the camera app, can take photos, and can even be used to change some camera settings.
Additionally, both iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models carry the Action button of the iPhone 15 Pro. This button switches between the phone’s voice and silent mode as standard, but users can assign shortcuts for the flashlight, translation or other app features. The new Camera Control button is among the important new features as a versatile “tactile” button that can detect your pressing force and the swipes you make on it.
Pressing this button while on the home screen or lock screen can open the camera application, and the scroll sense can be used to take photos or switch between various shooting settings while inside the application. It is also said that DSLR-like features will be added to this button with the upcoming updates. This means that you will be able to focus the camera by half-pressing the button and make the adjustments you want before taking the full shot.
In addition, the Camera Control button and the camera application in general will work with Apple Intelligence to add events to your calendar when you take a photo of a concert poster or party invitation. It will also be able to perform image searches similar to Google Lens. However, these features were not initially offered.

iPhone 16 cameras also received minor updates. The base iPhone version has a 48MP main sensor with a 2x telephoto option, and there is also a 12MP ultrawide sensor for better macro photos. The Pro version, on the other hand, has 4K and 120FPS photo shooting capabilities and can record slow motion, thanks to its 48MP ultra-wide and 12MP 5x telephoto sensors.
Hardware
All iPhone 16 models have 8GB RAM. This is because all models are required to provide the power required for Apple’s Intelligence.
On the CPU side, Pro models use the new A18 Pro chip. In standard models, Apple uses a new chip, A18.
So What to Do?
Deciding whether to keep your old iPhone will this time be a choice that depends more on your needs. If the performance of the iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 models seems low to you – which is difficult to happen – you can of course look at the iPhone 16 models.
Likewise, it also depends on how much emphasis you place on Apple Intelligence features. Except for the iPhone 15 Pro models, no older iPhone model will be able to run artificial intelligence features. At this point, if you do not have one of the iPhone 15 Pro models and Apple Intelligence is important to you, then you have no choice but to switch to the new iPhone.
Finally, we need to mention the Camera Control button. It’s not a necessity, but if you think you must have this button, your only option is to buy an iPhone 16…
