Why Is Netflix Removing Some TV Shows and Movies?

Netflix, the world’s most popular online series and movie platform, takes some content off the air from time to time. In fact, in a news we shared with you recently, we mentioned that some popular productions such as Friends and Harry Potter series will be removed from Netflix as of the end of this month. OK, why? Why is Netflix removing such popular content?

As a matter of fact, the answer to this question is very simple. License rights, as many of you might have guessed. As known; In order to be able to broadcast a series or movie somewhere, it is necessary to have the license rights of that production. Netflix does exactly that. However, the platform, which makes a new evaluation for that production after the license period expires, may not obtain the license rights again according to the decision it has taken. In such cases, the productions are removed from Netflix.

Costs are also important

Netflix pays particular attention to two issues when deciding to license a production. The first is whether the rights to that content still exist. The second thing is cost. The platform looks at how popular the content that needs to renew the license is in the relevant region and reviews it with the license cost. If a result that does not comply with the interests of the platform is reached in these transactions, the license rights of that production are not taken again.
