Turkey has been in red since 17 May in the list, in which the UK classifies countries as red, yellow and green due to COVID-19, according to virus levels. In this context, England, which removed Turkey from the red list and included it in the list of “travelable countries” on September 22, lifted the hotel quarantine requirement for those who have been vaccinated in Turkey, but instead introduced home quarantine and testing.

Despite this decision, England does not recognize Turkey’s vaccine system and certificate accepted by the European Union (EU). For this reason, vaccinated people traveling from Turkey to the UK are considered unvaccinated and must be in quarantine for 10 days at their place of stay. BBC Turkish asked the problem in question to the British Ministry of Health.

Turkey is better in vaccination rate than other countries on the list

Those vaccinated in Turkey are required to have a paid PCR test on their 2nd and 8th days in the UK, in addition to a 10-day home quarantine. Among the countries that the UK recognizes the vaccination system are the USA, European Union (EU) members, Japan and Australia, as well as developing countries. The UK counts people from these countries vaccinated only if they have had Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, Oxford/AstraZeneca and Janssen vaccines recognized by the UK.

Among the answers given by the British Ministry of Health on the subject; There are criteria such as the vaccines used in the countries, the rate of the fully vaccinated population, whether the vaccination certificate complies with the UK’s standards. Despite the fact that the vaccination certificate is accepted by the EU and the full vaccination rate is better than some other countries on the list, it is a question of why the UK does not recognize Turkey’s vaccination certificate, COVID-19 Covid-19 Data Analyst Tim White, to recognize the UK’s vaccination program. He said that their decisions on the issue are not as transparent as in the red list decisions.
