If your vacuum gets to the point where it smells, it definitely needs a thorough cleaning. This cleaning is not only necessary to get rid of bad smell. Also, this odor is a sign of a larger problem that, if left untouched, could damage your vacuum cleaner and shorten its lifespan.
Make sure you allow enough time to clean your vacuum cleaner. This cleaning can be a laborious process that requires you to wait until the different parts are separated and completely dry. After cleaning and reassembling, run your vacuum for at least a short time. If the foul odor is still present, you may need to take it to a professional or get a new vacuum.
