Buzz Aldrin, the second person to walk on the Moon, celebrated the 54th anniversary of Apollo 11’s historic launch on Sunday with a selfie on Twitter. Unfortunately, it wasn’t this celebration or breakfast that really caught the attention of his followers. The 3 different watches he wore on his wrists were at the center of users’ questions.

The reason for this intriguing number of watches was not an unusual wardrobe problem or something he learned on the Moon. He always uses three hours, Aldrin says.

In an interview posted on his website, he said, “Look, in case of an inconsistency you need an odd number of hours to understand the actual time; Like 3 or 5,” he said.

Relating this concept to space, he added that future NASA missions should use the wristwatch strategy when deciding on astronaut crew numbers: “We shouldn’t send an even number of people to Mars. Because then there will be a problem of equal votes in a vote during a dispute.”

The photo shows that the time of the clocks match, but that may not always be the case. Aldrin says that in such a case, the time shown by the 2 clocks will be real time.
