If you live in a crowded house or want to use the toilet in any public place and at the same time enjoy spending long minutes there, the stressful moments have already begun for you.

Let’s take a look at why these long toilet times, which go beyond relaxation and become a mostly problematic process, are more common in men.

Generally, many of us think that women spend much more time on the toilet. For this reason, let’s first look at how the situation is in women.

In order to answer this highly curious question, two different studies were carried out and the effects of various toilet problems on physiological gender differences were examined. Thus, it was realized that women actually suffer from abnormal bowel habits and constipation issues much more than men.

In other words, women have much more physiological problems in this sense, and the rate of spending time on the toilet is expected to be higher in women, as predicted. In addition, according to the US healthcare provider Geisinger, the average bowel movements take 12 seconds, and in fact, staying on the toilet for 10 minutes is enough at the point of defecation.

But physiological is not the only reason, and the situation is very different from what was expected.

Curious why men spend so many minutes on the toilet, a researcher surveyed 38 men aged 19 to 55 on their toilet habits and found that 92% of these men spent 20 minutes or longer on the toilet. About 70% of these 38 men were sitting on the toilet for an average of 30-40 minutes, and 6 of them even regularly spent 1 hour on the toilet.

The men were asked what they were doing there for so long, and their answers were quite remarkable. 84% of the men surveyed were browsing social media, 68% were watching YouTube videos, and 62 percent were reading the news.

The next popular responses were 49% replying to emails or messages, 24% watching an episode of a TV series, 14% reading a book, and 8% making a phone call.

The main point of these reasons is that men take shelter in the toilet “to spend some alone time”.

On the other hand, a psychotherapist says that men often perform single-focused mental activities such as watching a football match and reading the news in the toilet to reduce stress, and they make these activities a habit.

In addition, 63% of men surveyed intentionally stay in the bathroom longer when frustrated or angry at home or at work. Because men adopt it as a safe space and see it as a guaranteed place for an uninterrupted time they will allocate for themselves. In other words, men are somewhat distant from what is going on around them.

When this attitude of men in the toilet is compared with women, it is seen that men have a strong tendency to think and act on what they think.

On the contrary, women think that feelings and sharing are beneficial and therefore they prefer to talk to their friends instead of thinking or planning something on their own in the toilet.

In summary, toilets and bathrooms are much more than a place for men to throw out their body waste.

Many men are not very good at expressing their emotions, and a 2019 study found that 58% of men in the US, UK, Australia and Canada still feel pressured to be emotionally strong and not show their weaknesses.

In this case, the toilets become the indispensable places of the loneliness therapies that men apply to themselves, and considering all these data, it is not surprising that men spend quite a long time in the toilet.
