Almost every country in the world measures the temperature in celsius (° C), but Americans use Fahrenheit (F). Celsius is a reasonable scale that determines the boiling and freezing points of the water as 0 and 100, while this is in Fahrenheit, 32 and 212. So much more complex.
So why does America still use this complex measurement unit? What’s the reason he refused to move to Celcius?
At the beginning of the 18th century, the Fahrenheit system was useful.
In 1686, when this system came from the German scientist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit, it was a great problem to measure the temperature, and no one could find a real way to objectively measure the temperature.
Fahrenheit set the lowest temperature to be reached by the mixture of water and salt to zero. It then used 96 degrees, a second fixed point in the system, a measurement of average human body temperature (slightly faulty). The resulting scheme fixed the boiling point of the water to 212 degrees and the freezing point to 32 degrees.
In 1724, Fahrenheit was included in the British Royal Society, a leading Western scientific organization at that time, and his system was kept in the British Empire. His membership in the Royal Society, the thermometer and the scale of the UK was specially accepted in the UK.
In the 18th and 19th centuries, Britain conquered the large sections of the world and brought the Fahrenheit system with it. Fahrenheit was a standard temperature measurement unit in most of the world.
Then Celsius appeared.
In 1742, Celsius was invented by Swedish astronomer Celsius. In 1790, it was included in the metric system. The ease and scientific benefit of the metric system has spread worldwide.
Almost the entire world has switched to the metric system. This transition was very logical because adopting the one -to -one system with other countries facilitated its scientific cooperation.
The US established a council to supervise this transition.
In 1975, they enacted a law called the Metric Transformation Law, and the metric system led to confusion because they made it eager than being essential. Many people did not want to use new measurement units.
President Reagan distributed the Metric Delegation in 1982, and his work was shattered. The Congress’s implementation of the article in this state paved the way for America to continue to measure the temperature in Fahrenheit.
