In America, if you go to or work in Silicon Valley, you can actually see that Google’s founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, are quite popular in the technology world. However, as soon as you leave the borders of this region, you can see that they are not as famous as Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos.

The company was founded as a private company on September 4, 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were PhD students at Stanford University. Following its IPO on August 19, 2004, a 20-year collaboration agreement was signed with Eric Schmidt until 2024. Everything seems to have gone well since then. So what was the reason for their popularity?

Why did Google’s founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin not become popular?

There are several thoughts on this subject. According to the first of these, names such as Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos became the CEOs of the companies they founded. In this way, while their companies became popular over the years, they took their share from this situation. However, the founders of Google appointed Eric Schmidt instead of them, whom they thought should be the CEO of the company with someone more experienced.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin became the secret minds behind the company, while Schmidt, who was always at the forefront, became the face of Google. As we’ve seen with other names, if you are a successful enough leader, being the CEO of your own venture will place you in a much higher position in the eyes of society. In fact, according to estimates, if one of the co-founders was sitting in the leadership chair at the moment, it would inevitably be much more famous than other known names.

Names like Jobs, Zuckerberg, Gates and Bezos were all under the age of 30 and inexperienced when they started their companies. But they did not squander their opportunity. Of course, Apple’s founder Jobs made a name for himself more when he came to the company for the second time. But no one had the board of directors that he competed with. In fact, many people think that the founders of Google handed over the seat that Jobs fought to take over the company with their own hands.

Competition and the power of Hollywood

There is no one who does not remember the quarrels between Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Similarly, Zuckerberg has been involved in taunts with many of his rivals since the early 2000s. In fact, it has been under the rain of criticism by Twitter lately. For this reason, he can always talk about his name. However, since Google has been focusing on the development of the company in its own corner like a good boy since its inception, it is not brought up by users much.

Of course, we should not forget the Hollywood factor. Over the years, movies have been made about Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and Mark Zuckerberg. In this way, users and investors had the chance to get to know how companies were established and their founders on the white screen. However, as far as is known, the Google front turned down these offers that came to them in the past.

In addition to all this, it should not be forgotten that Gates and Zuckerberg have taken very active roles in charity and volunteer work. For example, in the past years, the names of Gates and his ex-wife were mentioned with a different project every month. Similarly, Zuckerberg and his wife often come up with this issue. In fact, the aid funds and foundations created by both sides still play a more active role. For this reason, they come to the fore even though they no longer make an effort to make their names known.
