Microsoft has announced that it has officially stopped production of all Xbox One consoles representing the previous generation, to focus on Xbox Series X and Series S production. Cindy Walker, senior director of Xbox console product marketing, told The Verge that Xbox One production actually ended in 2020.
We knew that Microsoft discontinued the Xbox One X and the digital Xbox One S in November 2020, just before releasing the Xbox Series X. Now we have learned that all Xbox One models have been discontinued.
Microsoft’s decision to discontinue the legacy console lineup is the exact opposite of Sony’s PS4 strategy. Sony said in a recent statement that it would not stop production of PS4 in order to stabilize demand for PS5 consoles and “keep gamers in the PlayStation ecosystem”. It is said that the Japanese giant will continue to produce PS4 due to the problems experienced in PS5 production.
According to Bloomberg, Sony will continue to manufacture PlayStation 4 consoles until the end of 2022, rather than stopping production of PS4 units. The previous plan was for production to be finished by the end of 2021.
As a result, we can say that approximately one million PS4s will hit store shelves this year. During this time, it will be a little difficult for us to find a Microsoft competitor against the PS4.
